About the Speakers 2017

Liz McEwan
9:00 a.m. “Herbal Bodycare” Liz is the owner of herbaliz.com, a natural body care products company. Herbaliz makes body care products in small batches, with botanicals, not chemicals. She began growing and studying herbs in 1996 and moved the business to Montgomery from Northeast Pennsylvania in 2012. She will be interviewed by:

Kathy Quinn, a longtime pharmacist who has been studying herbs at the Appalachian Center for Natural Health since 2015. She will be graduating this year as a Professional Herbalist. She is also the owner of Lost Creek Herbs and can be found selling her herbs and herbal products at the Montgomery Curb Market.

 

Valerie Nunnelly
10:30 a.m. “Natural Herbal Dyes” An Alabama tax attorney by day, Valerie is an amazing Native American healer who has studied herbs actively since 2015 and is also a fiber artist and weaver. She recently traveled to the west to study weaving and dyeing with the Navajo. She will be sharing her natural herbal dyes and dyed fibers with us.

 

Jannett Malpartida
11:30 a.m. “Latin Herbs in your Kitchen with a Venezuelan Flair”
Janett is a self-taught chef and Venezuelan native. She has been in the restaurant business since 1995 and opened D’Road Cafe in 2011, bringing Venezuelan cuisine to Montgomery.

 

Amanda Borden
1:00 p.m. “Planting to Attract Bees, Butterflies, and Friends” Amanda is a longtime Alabamian and a recently retired professor from Sandford. She moved to Tallassee where she grows herbs and vegetables and raises chickens. She shares her skills as a Master Gardener, and will speak about attracting bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects to your garden.
